Christmas Magic
     Hearts race, excitement mounts,
days counted down to this final moment.
     Coursing throughout my body is childlike glee,
strains of “White Christmas” drift melodically up to my ears.
     Eagerly throwing covers aside, racing down the stairs;
every bit as enamored, with the twinkling lights of beauty as when I was a child.
     Dad cooking Christmas breakfast, mom setting the table with special holiday china.
     Excitement, and memories of Christmas past;
encircle my family, enveloping us with love.
     Lively chatter; anticipation increases,
dishes gathered quickly, remains of our morning feast still evident,
all head towards the glowing tree.
     Happiness ensues amidst colorful bows, balled up pieces of tissue paper;
gift boxes strewn about in haste, as gifts are revealed.
     Hugs, kisses, words of thanks exchanged,
upon discovering treasures within brightly wrapped packages.
      Contentment fills the room,
family members pose for photographs,  arms linked as one.
     Christmas tunes play continually in the background,
creating picturesque moments forever captured in hearts.
     Smiles, good tidings, celebrating with loved ones,
moments unmatched, incomparable to any other!

Life’s Next Year!

image

Secrets of the Future
The glowing sun sets,
another year draws to a close.
Future dreams call seductively,
tempting in their promise of secrets undiscovered.
Tantalizing knowledge unbeknownst at this juncture of time,
mysteries untold, foreshadowing the years ahead.
Leading a life, uncertain at times,
wishing I knew what was to come to pass.
Eyes squeezed shut, creating my wish,
desiring happiness in the days ahead.
Optimistic regarding my place in this world,
yearning to learn which path destiny  chooses.
Drawing a deep breath, preparing to extinquish,
the lone flame flickering from a sole candle.
Pausing briefly, reliving moments, flashing through my mind, consisting of  scenarios past .
Remembering lost loved ones,
recalling fond memories wistfully.
Opening my eyes, a smile playing across my lips,
extinguishing the bright flame, commencing life’s next year!

My First and Forever Friend!.

When I saw this cute snowman cookie I had to buy it on principle.  You see my uncle who passed over the summer would always buy holiday themed cookies like this for my brother and I growing up.  It was like a tradition for him.  Every holiday we could count on getting a special holiday cookie from him every year growing up.  Unfortunately the cookies weren’t the best tasting, but it was nice to know he always was thinking of us!  He was a great uncle and always thought about others.  I bought this cookie in his honor!

HOLIDAYS REMEMBERED

Autumn colors disappear from trees,

chills of winter are felt in the air.

Gathering together for a holiday meal,

family members laugh heartily; reminiscing over memories from the past year.

Delicious smells waft seductively from the kitchen,

taste buds salivate,  anticipating homemade offerings.

Family begins to congregate around the table,

as the browned turkey is placed  proudly in the center.

Sounds of delight are heard upon viewing the beautiful spread,

loved ones pass warm bowls piled high with mashed potatoes and fluffy rolls.

All give thanks for another year together,

then dive hungrily into the delicious foods on their plates.

Soon, much too quickly, the meal is over,

guests drag themselves home, full, but content.

At night they dream happy thoughts of the day passed,

looking forward to the next time that all will gather together to celebrate.

Happy Early Thanksgiving to all!

Surviving the Night

https://pensivewriter2013.wordpress.com/

Darkness, black as ink, arrives

leaving me alone with my thoughts

sole inhibitor of an island of memories.

Memories full of “what ifs” and excruciating longing

for a life too soon ended; I grieve.

A jagged sword of power painfully shoots through me

draining me of feeling.  Overcome with emptiness; void of emotion; I close my eyes

trying to block out heartache’s slow approach.

My attempts futile; my mind races on

I receive no reprieve; rest from my thoughts unobtainable

they gnaw at me bit by bit

leaving in their wake a hollow shell

forming a shadow; that now comprises the person

I have become.  Reminants remain, a glimmer of the past, that defined my previous self.

Knowledge dawns; I cannot become whole again;

memories can’t be recreated, erased;

thoughts can’t be silenced.

Changed forever, they created the person before you.

Night shadows lengthen dawn approaches;

a sigh of relief escapes my lips; realization that I

endured another lonely night dawns.

One day strength will allow me to escape the lonely island of thoughts I’m stranded on; renewed for now I rise greeting the first rays of daylight.
