Sunlight’s Lullaby

Her bent silhoutte forms shadows, tears stream from sapphire eyes.
Heavy heart seeped in grief,
laden with burdens of life, invisible to human eyes.
Golden rays twinkle, specks of fairy dust fill the air,
a blanket woven of sunlight, encircles her frame.
Comforting touch, protecting one in need during moments of weakness,
driving away emotional vultures perched hungrily, waiting to swoop down.
They will have to quench their hunger elsewhere,
sun’s radiance has forced them into hiding.
Emulating a comforting mother’s hand,
brilliant trajectories bathe the wounded soul in brightness.
Seeking to assuage reason for this melancholy,
cradling its earth child in powerful arms of magnitude, rocking her slowly, into peaceful sleep.
As quiet sighs of contentment escape her lips,
Rays recede into the horizon, watchful for signs that they are needed below.

Ah, the sky! Both mysterious and wonderous in its ability to create natural beauty.  It has been said that if you take in the calming blue hues seen above, your mood improves.  I feel this is definitely possible.  But when the sun starts to set, creating a kaleidoscope affect of color, that’s when I feel the sky truly comes alive!! As a photographer, we are trained to look for those moments of beauty in nature, ones that are so magnificent, you’re left awestruck.  The extraordinary ability of the sky to create displays of color, unique cloud formations, and the manner in which the sun shoots trajectories of light down to Earth make it one of my favorite natural phenomenon to photograph.  Enjoy the inspiration resulting from the brillance of the sky!!

Lunch time again. Staring absent mindedly at the contents filling the refrigerator, my mind isn’t on food.  My mind is whirling like a hamster running on its wheel, thoughts churning at an intense speed.  I finally decide on having a lite lunch of cheese, crackers, and almonds, rationalizing that the almonds are protein and will supply me with needed energy.  I carry my meager choices to the kitchen table, but quickly forget them, as I am distracted by the beautiful glowing ball of sunlight that is glaring through the windows directly in my line of vision.  Deciding this opportunity is too perfect to ignore, I grab my camera and a handful of almonds and head outside to capture the sun in all its brilliant glory. Seeing the radiance emitted by the sun, I become inspired to create a poem about its magnificence, and dart inside to retrieve my notebook and pencil.  I get wrapped up in writing my ode to the sun and suddenly the sky alights with glorious colors as the sun slowly sinks into the horizon.  Once again I grab my camera and venture outside to capture the natural beauty of Mother Nature. Upon entering the house after another successful photo session I glance the time on the clock near the door, 5:00 PM!  Where did the day go? I sigh and begin making preparations for dinner.

Families can mean different things to each person.  Some people come from small families, while other people have families comprising large groups of people.  Then there are friends who have always been in your life and would give you the shirt off their backs.  They grow so close to you, you couldn’t imagine life without them.  These are your adopted family members that while not blood, are family nonetheless!
We tend to immediately picture people when we hear the word family, but animals also have their own sense of family.  Here in the picture above I was lucky to capture a family of six deer coming out of the forest to search for food together as the sun was setting.  The larger deer protected the smaller deer by keeping them in the middle of their line, just as parents protect their children.  The larger deer also kept a watchful eye for signs of danger as their young ate.  It was amazing to witness the similarities between how the mother and father deer cared for their young,  compared to how a human mother and father care for their children.  It was a truly beautiful experience!

Darkened Sunshine
By Jennifer L Roche

Once bright in appearance, now hue has diminished,
clouds dense like fog, envelope the sky.
No glimmer of light can invade these fluffy giants,
consuming all that stands in their path.
No thin ray of sunshine,
can penetrate this solid wall.
Try though it may, sun appears unable to permeate this barrier,
a dominating obstacle, overtaking the world above.
Sun refuses to concede to defeat, pushing repeatedly at its oppressor,
begrudgingly, dark clouds give way to the persistant attitude, that refuses to back down.
Emerging briefly, victorious in battle,
is the circular shaped winner, towering over the Earth.
Its glow creates a rainbow of colors,
visible through the dark void overhead.
Proof positive that insistance,
vanquishes darkness, creating victory. Constantly battling to maintain its rightful position,
this golden orb inspires within oneself, the yearning to fight for happiness in life!

Having begun a new photo challenge that aims to show the same photograph only digitally remastered, I chose the first colored photograph because the sun above created brilliant shadows of the trees on the newly fallen snow.  To remaster this capture, I first cropped it to center more on the shadows created from the glowing sun.  Next I used a picture changing filter from the paper artist app, called comic book, to create the black and white effect for the same picture, which helped to enhance the shadows created from the trees, and finally framed the entire image to give it a finished look.  Would you believe that this is the same picture as the first one shown above?  Well it is! 🙂

The daily prompt today couldn’t be more tailored to my personality.  It says to show colors.  The post written about colors must incorporate every color found in the rainbow.  Well hold onto you hats fellow bloggers, because photographing rainbows and researching their meaning is my specialty!
The rainbow is one of mankinds’ oldest known symbols of hope and eternal life.  This arc of colors is the product of perfect harmony within the vibrant shades. Beginning with a passionate red, then fading seamlessly into each different color until reaching its end in a deep purple. The seven colors of the rainbow mirror the seven chakras found in the human body.  Each color in the rainbow is associated with a different chakra and has its own unique meaning. Whether you choose to believe in the power and the energy produced from the rainbow’s individual colors is your choice.  I personally feel that the magnificence created by the formation of a rainbow is something to take notice of!  It has been said  the violet/purple shade seen in the rainbow can be linked to our crown chakra, and offers spiritual power. The indigo shade is associated with the human mid-brow chakra eliciting third eye intuition.  The blue coloring  is symbolic of the throat chakra, creating inspiration.  Green represents our heart chakra, creating will and feeling.  Yellow links to our solar chakra and thus links to our mind. Orange is attached to the spleen chakra, aiding in digestion and personal sociability.  Finally, that vibrant red topping the rainbow, is connected to the human root chakra, providing us with spirituality, ability to take action, and our vitality for life!  There is more to the 7 colors in the rainbow’s arc than you realized!
I personally feel that the rainbow serves as a link between Earth and sky, uniting us with those loved ones above that have passed on.  When I see a rainbow, they tend to appear at moments in my life when I am in need of personal reassurance, or feeling extremely low.  Therefore, I feel these vibrant colors serve as a symbol from our loved ones passed to reassure us that all will be well, and to continue to persevere in life.  The rainbow appears to serve as a promise that there is still hope to be found even in the toughest of times.  A magnificent gift of nature found in an arc of colors, letting us know our lost loved ones are never far away.  They are always watching over us from above.  The rainbow with its seven glorious colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet/purple, is a visual reminder to be grateful for nature’s beauty, present throughout our world. A beautiful sign to remind us to be thankful for all the things present in our lives! 🙂

Snow Covered Silence

Blanket of white consumes fields once green,
muffling, suppressing hints of sound.
Untrodden by man, surface pristine,
glistening beauty reflecting sun’s light.
Numerous shining, sparkling flecks,
bright as stars, these crystallized diamonds twinkle.
Breathtaking view, remnants of a  snowfall,
magical, enchanting, feast for the eyes!
Transparent icicles, dangle precariously,
soundlessly releasing droplets one by one, as a golden sun reigns above.
Tree branches bow towards the ground,
burdened with piles of white powder.
Silence enshrouds everything,
snowfall creating a natural buffer.
Earth sighs, full of contented pleasure,
relishing stillness prevalent throughout the land.

Nothing symbolizes beginnings better to me than this photograph of the morning sun rising, shining brightly to begin the day alongside the beginning end of a vibrant rainbow! This pairing together instills in one a sense of hope, of inspiration, the feeling that the world is yours for the taking to achieve your dreams and conquer all that stands in your way! Beginnings offer us a chance to begin anew, to right past wrongs, and strive for greatness.  Each day we have the opportunity to create a new beginning, a new vision for our lives, a chance to be the best we can be.  This occurs every time the sun rises welcoming a new day.  Our chances to create a new beginning are endless since each sunrise is a blank canvas for us to create magnificent moments upon.

https://pensivewriter2013.wordpress.com/2013/12/20/weekly-photo-challenge-one/
This weeks theme of one is fabulous! I had such a hard time deciding which photograph would best depict the theme one for me.  I wanted my submission to stand out and be symbolic since the term one symbolizes individuality, strength, and independence.  Finally I settled on this photograph.

image

One Nation United!

I feel nothing symbolizes the theme of one like our flag.  I noticed it waving proudly from atop a building from my hotel room in New Orleans.  The flag of our country is the one symbol known far and wide to all Americans.  Steadfast, strong, an unwavering sign of our one nation united!

Then I had to add a few additional photographs that met the theme of one, couldn’t help it!
First I adored this curly tailed lizard seen in Grand Cayman.  He wandered amongst the tourists, fearless content to be on his own!
image

Then this single bluebird appearing in my bushes exibited the singular theme so completely, he had to be included.
image

The theme of one couldn’t be complete without a photograph of my favorite cat! He’s an entity all his own!

image

A single, bright, yellow buttercup growing amongst weeds under a bush made my cut as well.
image

This post on the theme of one, had to display my favorite natural phenomena by Mother Nature.  A vibrant rainbow cascading through the sky!  While some rainbows appear as double rainbows, this capture is of a single one slicing color through the fluffy clouds! Pure singular magnificence!

image

Finally, keeping with the season, this snow-covered tree standing resolute, alone on my front lawn, branches straining under the weight of snow and ice rounded out my contributions to the weekly photo challenge-one!

Enjoy my interpretations of one! Happy Holidays everyone!
